  4. Ankle & Calf Massager
  5. Rolling Pin
  6. Water Bottle
  7. Journal
  8. Audio Book Membership
  9. Meal Delivery

Cryotherapy

Since so many surgeons will recommend frequent icing as a way to reduce pain, having a comfortable ice pack or cyotherapy system may be beneficial.

Below are my two most common recommendations.

Economy

This Chattanooga brand ice pack is the exact one we use in our physical therapy clinic. It remains soft and flexible even after several hours in the freezer. We usually use an ace elastic bandage to wrap over the cold pack to hold it in place and reduce swelling.

Premium

This Gen 2 Polar Vortex ice machine has been used by several of my recent patients and they have all been very happy with it. They usually use an elastic ace wrap to hold the pad in place and leave it on for several rounds of use per day. The compression of the ace wrap also reduces swelling between therapy sessions.

Moist Heat

For patients who are sensitive to cold, moist heat might be a better option. The most common place to use moist heat is on the upper thigh or lower calf after total knee replacement surgery.

The following moist heat pack is similar to the kind used in most physical therapy clinics and chiropractic offices.

Walker Tray/Basket and Accessories

Walker accessories can make recovery far more enjoyable. Having a way to carry food and other items between rooms can provide a level of independence for anyone living alone or spending time at home.

This walker tray is a great resource and easily pops on most standard walkers.

Another great accessory is a walker basket. Patients will use this to store medication bottles, carry books and hobbies, or just put an extra bottle of water.

Ankle and Calf Massager

One of the most common secondary complaints after a total knee replacement surgery is ankle and calf pain. The is most commonly associated with changes in the way my patient is walking following surgery.

This ankle and calf massager is a great way to reduce pain, improve function, and make recovery between physical therapy treatments more pleasureable.
